KEEPING YOURSELF AND OTHERS ACCOUNTABLE!

Are you always caring for others and leaving yourself behind? Look no further, CARE circle, here to shine a light on existing problems within the health industry; specifically those who are caretakers or those who take cares of others.

Overview

WHAT EXACTLY IS CARE Circle?

CARE circle is a web responsive concept that allows one to create and keep track of your health goals and others. The site gives you the ability to simultaneously see everyones goals and needs, while also sharing them with others. CARE circle allows you to add partners to your circle and hold accountability to one another.

OUR Challenge

OUR GOAL

WHAT WE HAD TO DO?

What DID WE HOPE?

Health is something that differs from person to person. To one it may be mental health while to others it can be physical or maybe all the above. But something we all have in common, is holding each other accountable and taking care of others. While this can be tough, it is incredibly important for everyone to attain their goals and keep track. Our team set out to design a service to make that experience better overall.

Exploration

TOPIC MAP

what DID WE ASSUME?

After our team was tasked to create a responsive interface in the area of health, it was important for us to define what part of health we would be focusing on. We did this by generating a topic map, which is a type of brainstorm made up of a series of bubbles that branch out into several topics. After utilizing dot voting, we defined that there was a clear focus on diet, fitness and mental health with two main categories; People who care for their own health and those who care for others.

THE PROBLEM

what DID WE ASSUME?

To recruit the best quality candidates to interview we sent out a screener survey, a questionnaire that help us narrow down interview participants. We set out to find the problems in the area of diet, fitness, and mental health.

How might we help users quickly track what they utilize in regards to their health needs?

We wanted to know the issues first hand, so we drafted a discussion guide with our target audience in mind. This would help us guide the interviews in the right direction to ultimate find out about their general health habits.

The real problem

What did we learn?

Our interviews brought to light new problems that we had not even thought about. Most people mentioned keeping a step count and that they try to incorporate movements throughout their busy day however they could. Most have consciousness about eating to get proper nutrition from their food and for their underlying health conditions. Additionally and most importantly, a majority of our interviewees talked not only about taking care of their own health but taking care of others. And lastly, people are goal focused when creating their health routines.

PERSONAS

HOW DO WE Personify the ProbleM?

Given our target audience, we created a fictional health conscious user, commonly known as a persona. Personas let us design for the many, by designing for just one of our most typical users. Additionally, it was important to understand the current emotional journey they experience while handling their health and others, this is why we created a user journey.

THE HEALTH ENTHUSIAST

Meet Theresa, a 46-year-old health conscious soul. She is a hard worker yet on the side takes time to care for her mother, Cindy.

The Gist…

Theresa is most at her low when she is away from home unable to properly manage her mother’s needs from afar. She makes time for her own health but is always juggling though multiple platforms and tools to update information in real time.

REDEFINING THE PROBLEM

With Theresa, and Cindy, in mind we restructured our problem keeping in mind the following:

How might we help people stay accountable to themselves and for others in regards to their specific health goals throughout the day?

DESIGN

DEFINING THE MVP

HOW DID WE ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS?

After experiencing Theresa’s daily struggles, we noticed places of opportunities where CARE circle can help ease her health journey. These are some features we knew we needed to include before jumping into the design…

HOW DID IT BEGIN?

We ran design studio which helped us individually flush out various ways for multiple users to compare, track, motivate, and incentivize through health community social sharing. We then converged these ideas towards goal setting, meal planning and fitness regimens to ultimately come up with our mid-fidelity mobile wireframes.

WHAT DID WE COME UP WITH?

We began by bringing in each of our designs and ultimately collaborating to create what we believe is the best experience for the user making sure that we are solving the problem. We created the design of the Mobile Browser, starting by blocking out the space and not focusing on the details. We then took our wireframes and created a clickable prototype. Designing the prototype in detail confirmed the ideas we thought would be essential items to design but were too high in effort to achieve given the amount of time allotted.

WE FOCUSED ON…

HOW DID IT PERFORM?

We conducted a total of 5 usability testings for our first round of testing utilizing our mid-fidelity wireframes. We found that users wanted to immediately click the plus button in the main navigation over the giant one on the main screen; they believe it seemed like a background instead of a clickable option. Many users expressed they want to use the hamburger menu to complete tasks rather than options on the screen. Additionally, people utilized home screen to answer specific tasks, instead of individual pages we had categorized for it.

THE SOLUTION

WHAT DID WE CHANGE?

After analyzing the insights gained from our initial round of testing, we moved forward with our prototype, most important bringing in color, creating hover states, developing our theme, and solving the issues that were brought to our attention. Being a Responsive Interface Design, it was important for us to begin to think about what this would look like on a larger screen and what would have to change.

HI-FIDELITY MOBILE

LETS SEE IT IN ACTION!

How did IT perform?

With the new and improved prototype, it was time to see the high-fidelity in action and see how it performed. All the users were able to successfully navigate through the interface, regardless of how many clicks it took them to get there. By providing multiple ways of access, adding color, and rewording some buttons it became a more seamless experience.

Responsive Design

HOW DID WE ADAPT IT?

After taking a look that everything went as planned during the second round of testing, it was time to adapt it into desktop format. With the significant increase of real estate the desktop layout provides, we were able to fully reveal images, change the location of the navigation and replace a home icon to the CARE circle logo.

NEXT STEPS

WHAT’S NEXT

WHERE DO WE CARE CIRCLE?

Obviously, more testing needs to be done. Additionally, some UI elements need to be reconfigured for ultimate success:

FINAL THOUGHTS…

We know CARE circle can make a huge impact by providing health enthusiasts with real-time tracking of their health goals and their loved ones, with reminders and other motivational techniques.
